Counting
Sticking
Standard = the traditional American band-room count (1 e & a, 1 trip let). Eastman = the McHose/Tibbs system (1 te, 1 la li, 1 ti te ta). Natural sticking keeps each hand tied to its spot in the grid — rests don't change hands. Alternate switches hands on every played note, so rests shift the pattern.

Time Signature

C = common time, another name for 4/4 (felt in 4). ¢ = cut time (2/2) — the same notes as 4/4 but felt in 2, with the half note taking the beat. Switch between them while it plays to hear the difference.

Subdivisions & Patterns

Subdivisions
Set every beat at once here, or use the menu under each beat on the staff above. Patterns mix notes and rests inside a beat — silent pulses show as hollow notes with their counts in (parentheses). Pattern choices appear once their subdivision is picked, grouped by how many notes sound.

Combination Rhythms

Presets fill the measure beat-by-beat, repeating the sequence if the measure is longer. Hover a preset to see its recipe.
